Az énekesnő LILY DIOR a mi néhai Orszáczky Jackie-nk felfedezettje, Ausztrália egyik legkitűnőbb jazz vokalistájává nőtte ki magát, majd gondolt egy merészet és átköltözött Londonba, ahol sokkal nagyobb a verseny, de ott is rövidesen az élvonalban találta magát. New Yorkban a legendás Mark Murphynél tanult tovább. Később a kiváló hangszerelő/zongorista, Dave Matthews figyelt fel rá és meghívta, hogy énekeljen együttesével, a Manhattan Jazz Quintettel (a másik négy: Bill Evans, Charnett Moffatt, Victor Lewis, Lew Soloff volt). Az Alternative Media Group jazz kritikusa, Emma Barnett találóan írta róla: „pazar muzikalitással és ragyogó tehetséggel rendelkezik. Carol King, Aretha Franklin és Billie Holiday hatása csendül ki gyönyörű funky hangjából”.
Discovered by the late great bassist Jackie Orszaczky in Auastralia as a teenager, performing a show she wrote and produced on the life of Billie Holiday, singer LILY DIOR became a seminal member of Sydney’s hottest Soul/Funk outfit, ‘The Godmothers’, wowing audiences with her electric stage presence and powerful voice. “If you see only one local band this year, make sure you catch this shimmering and wonderful soul funk act” (Bruce Elder, SMH)
Awarded a grant in 2000, Lily travelled to New York to study with jazz legend Mark Murphy, and was invited to perform at one of his rare appearances. That same year, she was singled out by legendary arranger/pianist Dave Matthews to perform with The Manhattan Jazz Quintet, which included Bill Evans, Charnett Moffatt, Victor Lewis, and Lew Soloff, at Sydney Casino’s Lyric Theatre.
Returning to her roots, Lily has spent the last two years in London building her reputation and has already established herself as an in demand performer appearing regularly at iconic jazz venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The 606 Club and Pizza Express Soho.
